SCTA Newsletter 2021-1

Nov 28, 2021

Solano Tennis Players:

The plan is to make the SCTA Newsletter available on the website but we are not there yet.

There is a lot going on right now, some of it time sensitive, so this is your update.

Tennis Community Social.

The SCTA is hosting a social for the local tennis community on Saturday, January 22, 2022, at 11:00 AM.

·        Plan to join us at the Trinity Baptist Church multi-purpose room at 401 West Monte Vista Avenue in Vacaville.

·        Everyone is welcome; you do not need to be a SCTA member to participate.

·        Plan on a potluck lunch with an opportunity to reconnect with the rest of the community.

·        Seleste Buriani has agreed to organize the potluck/social side.

·        Tim Tieu has agreed to consolidate a video compilation of your tennis activities.

·        Look for updates as we get closer to the date.

USTA League Tennis.

We currently have nine teams registered to begin USTA league play on the Centennial Park courts on January 3, 2022.

·        Team registration ends on December 6th, so there may be more teams.

·        Those teams can be found here: https://www.ustanorcal.com/organization.asp?id=3374

·        Player registration opens on December 2nd.

·        Find a team, reach out to the captain, and sign up on the 2nd.

·        Players will be asked to join the SCTA.

Junior Tournaments.

Adults typically play league tennis; juniors play tournaments.

·        Ongoing junior tournaments can be found here: https://playtennis.usta.com/tournaments?level-category=junior&location=95688,%20CA

·        There is a Level 4 Open at Solano Community College December 11-12; registration closes December 6th.

Centennial Park Court Usage Agreement.

The SCTA is finalizing an agreement with the City of Vacaville for team play/practice in 2022.

·        SCTA will be the POC between the City and the captains.

·        Usage fee will be $10 per team event (match/practice).

·        SCTA will host a captains’ meeting after the NorCal Master schedule is posted to deconflict desired court times.

·        SCTA will schedule the courts with the City and pay the usage fee with revenue generated by SCTA dues.

SCTA Board of Directors Meeting.

·        The SCTA Board will next meet on Saturday, December 4th.

·        Focus will be on planning the Annual Members Meeting/Tennis Community Social event.

·        That includes naming a Nominating Committee for director positions and finalizing an amended By-Laws.

·        If you want to be part of that Nominating Committee or want to be considered for a director position, please tell us now.

Annual Membership Meeting.

·        Following the Tennis Social on January 22nd, the active SCTA members will convene for the annual membership meeting.

·        Directors Ken Wildung, Don Clyde, and Mary Johnsen have the lead on planning that meeting.

·        Members will be asked to approve the SCTA by-laws, elect the 2022 Board of Directors, and give guidance about personal info on the website.

·        Only adult members with current 2022 membership will be allowed to vote.

Capital Improvement Plan.

·        Unless and until better courts become available for organized play, our home will be the courts at Centennial Park.

·        We recognize that conditions there can be improved for team play and other activities.

·        The City of Vacaville is willing to work with us on projects like windscreens, lights, benches, and spectator seating.

·        We anticipate a decision from the IRS on our request for tax-exempt status by year end. Approval will open up fund-raising opportunities.

·        The next step is building a project plan for each element, so that we can cost each out and establish specific fundraising goals.

·        If you want to be part of this CIP effort, let us know now.

SCTA Website.

·        Our scta.tennis website is still a work in progress, so your comments and suggestions are welcome.

·        The plan is to have it serve as the communication hub for our tennis community.

·        2021 membership is available for free right now. 2022 membership through the website will soon be available.

·        If you would like to be involved in adding content to the website, please tell us now.

Thanks for caring about tennis in northern Solano County.

See you on the courts.
